Cervinia in Italy, better skiing is hard to find
Undoubtedly Italy’s most snow-sure ski area is closely followed by Livigno, but in Cervinia, we are in the beautiful Dolomites with the sharply cut “white mountains”, the signature of the Dolomites. The mountain that bears the many slopes is Monte Cervino. Known to most as the Matterhorn. Cervinia is located at a height of 2,050 meters in the valley and 3,480 meters to the top of the lift system. This means high certainty of snow from November to May. You can also try glacier skiing and snowboarding as early as October.
History of Cervinia
The place was already opened in 1936 and was then called Breuil, but Mussolini changed the name to Cervinia as correctly being more Italian. With that age, it is one of the oldest ski areas in the Alps, and it leaves its mark with classic cafes and the indefinable atmosphere of a classic ski resort.
The skiing, close to endless
With gentle descents and climbs in a huge area, it is also an excellent area for beginner skiers.
Cervinia contains a famous slope Ventina, several times in the top 10 of the world’s best ski slopes.
It is a family-friendly ski area, and although the Ventina piste is categorized as difficult here, it would probably be classified as medium elsewhere. The piste’s strength lies in its length, 1,430 metres, and it is suitable for both beginners and fast runners.
For most, the place is generally a perfect place to cruise down the hills “Italian style”, read style before speed, or run really hard because the difficulty level is manageable and the piste preparation is absolutely top notch.
Fancy more skiing challenges?
Then it’s lucky that the ski system takes you to Zermatt, where with the Swiss sense of self-challenge more than style on skis you give it full throttle on more difficult slopes, but not hopeless for the more experienced skier.
You can reach it from Cervinia on the far side of the Klien Matterhorn and up to the top of the glacier in the same place. In this way, Cervinia offers both of two skiing philosophies.
The ski pass or rather the ski passes in Cervinia
The ski passes for Cervinia have been heavily modernized. You will find that many modern chairlifts have been added, and there is a good connection to the neighboring town of Valtournence. If you have bought the big lift pass, lunch awaits in Switzerland, down towards Zermat, where there is easy skiing among beautiful trees, and a magnificent selection of charming sun terraces.
Please note that the included lift pass includes 126 kilometers of pistes. If you want to have access to all 359 kilometers of slopes, you must extend your lift card, and you will get Zermat on the card.
